Healthcare 2021 - How it started vs how it's going

January 11, 2021

Over 200 new doctors start at our hospital in the coming weeks. My 15-minute talk, ‘Medicine, Our Way’ is split over two videos. I deliver it to doctors early in their career, but everything I see and hear tells me that the same issues are relevant for all health practitioners.

Here in Part 1, How it started (10 mins), I discuss the gap between what we were taught and what we need to know. What do our patients need? How do we connect with them and provide true healing? Hierarchical management may still exist, but what does complexity in healthcare mean for our daily work and what are the rules of engagement?

In part 2 (5 mins), it's about where we are now: authentic team relationships, culture, cognitive biases, self-development, failure and mistakes. Taken together, it's 15 minutes of what I would want my younger self to know when I began working in healthcare.
